National Experts Putting Impeachment On the Table

World Can't Wait, along with After Downing St., CodePink, Project Censored, Democrats.com, and others will be putting on a dynamic event titled, "Impeach Bush NOW! Roundtable and Town Hall: How Impeachment Can Happen."

When: SUNDAY April 15, 2:00-4:30 PM
Where: King Middle School, 1781 Rose St., Berkeley, CA
What: The Roundtable and Town Hall will feature National Impeachment Experts:

* Dr. Peter Phillips, Professor of Sociology and Media Research at Sonoma State; Co-Editor of Impeach the President.

* Elizabeth de la Vega, Former Federal Prosecutor; Author of United States v. George W. Bush et al

* Dr. Dennis Loo, Professor of Sociology at Cal Poly Pomona; Co-Editor of Impeach the President

* Debra Sweet, National Director of The World Can't Wait-Drive Out the Bush Regime!

* Sophie deVries, National Impeachment Coordinator; Democrats.com

The aim of this event is not simply to educate but to mobilize people in demanding impeachment as the only course of action commensurate with the danger of allowing Bush and Cheney to finish out their term in office. Our panelists will address this issue from a variety of angles, and the audience will be active participants in the discussion.

The Bush administration is carrying out war crimes and crimes against humanity. A war of aggression in Iraq that is taking countless innocent lives, legalized torture, military tribunals which strip away the most basic of legal rights, warrantless spying, and now plans for attacking Iran are being drawn up.  Impeachment can and must bring this all to a halt. Yet Congress, now with a Democratic majority, refuses to act in any meaningful way to stop the Bush regime, declaring that impeachment is "off the table", and recently approving $100 billion more for the Iraq war.

At the same time, mainstream media (CNN, FOX News, Colbert Report, Rosie O'Donnell) and the American public are beginning to speak more openly of impeachment. As Dennis Loo, one of the panelists, recently stated in a speech, " The battle for impeachment...isn't just about Bush/Cheney. It's about the very nature of our society and the world. We're at a critical point...in the history of the planet. Because of the complicity of the existing political leadership and opinion-makers in our society, the true nature and magnitude of these dictatorial and outright fascist moves have been concealed from the people."
