4/20/07 - In a surprise move, the Senate passed SR0016, a resolution for impeachment, by a 16-9 vote. The resolution bypassed the committees and had little debate. The resolution was introduced by Senators Peter Shumlin and Jeanette White. Shumlin was initially reluctant to support an impeachment resolution but was apparently convinced by the strong grassroots pressure. 3/6/07 - 35 towns pass impeachment resolutions against Bush and Cheney. They include Bristol, Middlebury, Richmond, Newfane, Guilford, Vershire, Rochester, Westminster, Hartland, Newbury, Dummerston, Johnson, Calais, Grafton, Jericho, East Montpelier, Woodbury, Roxbury, Plainfield, Peru, Jamaica, Wilmington, Craftsbury, Greensboro, Marlboro, Townshend, Morristown, Montgomery, Putney, Tunbridge, Springfield, Sunderland, St. Johnsbury(town meeting survey 71-27), Stannard, Burke. 2/15/07 - A resolution to impeach George Bush was introduced into the Vermont State Legislature. It has 20 sponsors including David Zuckerman. It charges Bush with torture, warrantless wiretaps, excessive use of signing statements, illegally invading Iraq and committing fraud related to Iraq. It was immediately assigned to the Judiciary Committee. [Status] [Text]

9/28/06 - Montpelier City Council agreed to place an impeachment referendum on the November ballot. [TimesArgus]

4/26/06 - Rep. Dave Zuckerman, P-Burlington introduced a measure to impeach Bush and was joined by 23 of his colleagues, all Progressives and Democrats except for one independent. Late Wednesday, the measure was assigned to the House Judiciary Committee, according to the Office of House Speaker Gaye Symington. [VermontGuardian]

4/8/06 - The Democratic State Committee voted to urge the U.S. Congress to begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush. Rep. John Tracy, of Burlington, urged fellow Democrats to skip the stop at the Vermont Legislature and go straight to Congress. 4/7/06 - Rockingham Vermont passes an impeachment resolution, 55-30, to be delivered to the US House Clerk via the Speaker of the House. [BrattleboroReformer]

3/31/06 - The State Democratic Committee will vote on impeachment on Saturday, April 8th. Grand Isle County Democratic Committee voted yes on a resolution that essentially restates the same charges, but asks our federal Senators and Congressman to push for a full investigation and the Conyers and Feingold Resolutions.

3/30/06 - Steve Schlipf reports "At present, 8 Vermont counties [Democratic Committees] (Addison, Bennington, Chittenden, Franklin, Lamoille, Orleans, Rutland and Washington) have sponsored the impeachment resolution. Windsor County did not take up the impeachment resolution, but did vote to censure Bush. The four other County Committees will be voting between now and April 10, as will the State Democratic Committee and State Progressive Committee."

3/14/06 - Steve Schlipf reports that Bennington County voted for impeachment and Windsor County voted for censure.

3/13/06 - Steve Schlipf reports that the Franklin County Democratic Committee has passed a resolution of impeachment using the Rutland County resolution. Orleans County has passed the resolution, and three more counties are voting tonight.

3/8/06 - 5 Vermont Towns Endorse Impeachment According to Dan DeWalt, the resolution passed 6 to 1 in Marlboro, 4 to 1 in Newfane, and by an almost unanimous voice vote in Dummerstown and Putney. [GoogleNews]
